About Maine Coast Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K
The Maine Coast Marathon has a long and storied history. The race was first held in 1980 under its original name, the Nike Maine Coast Marathon. The race was discontinued in 1986 as the secret service would not allow the course to pass by a presidential family’s private compound located at a place called Walker’s Point. Thankfully, the race was revived and renamed the Maine Coast Marathon in 2013.

🌊 A Scenic New England Tradition
Set against the stunning backdrop of Maine’s coastline, this race has become a must-run event for thousands of runners across the region. The course begins at Wells Beach and winds through picturesque marshes, forests, and farmland before finishing at Wells Harbor Community Park, where runners are rewarded with breathtaking views of a working waterfront on the Atlantic Ocean.

👟 A Race That Keeps Growing
From its early days in the 1980s to today, the Maine Coast Marathon has earned its place on countless race calendars and even graced the pages of national running magazines. Now welcoming over 4,000 runners annually, it’s one of Maine’s most beloved running events.
